The WHO's Europe chief, Dr. Hans Kluge, made clear monkeypox cases in Europe had tripled in the previous two weeks, comprising 90 percent of the global total.
He stressed the pressing need to nip its entrenchment on the continent in the bud.
Over in Africa, health authorities are entreating affluent countries to divvy out vaccine supplies in the light of the burgeoning monkeypox outbreak, which has been declared an emergency.
Data suggests 99 percent of cases involve men, particularly those who have had homosexual sex.
To date, over 5,000 monkeypox infections have been recorded from 51 countries worldwide.
