Mike Pence rebutted Trump's claims about overturning election results

{O/C}

To a gripe in the U.S., where former Vice President Mike Pence directly refuted Donald Trump's claims about overturning the results of the 2020 Presidential Election.

Meantime, two Republicans were censured because of their participation in the January 6 probe.

Delivering a speech to his audience of the conservative Federalist Society in Florida, former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence did not cut Trump some slack in addressing his former boss' stepped-up effort to overturn the results of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election, which Trump repeatedly claimed was stolen from him.

{Soundbite} MIKE PENCE, Former United States Vice President: President Trump said I had the right to overturn the election. President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election.

Pence's fiercest response came as he refuses to dance to Trump's tune. He appears to have gone his separate way ever since Trump was incensed at his decision not to block certification, which triggered the deadly January 6 Capitol Insurrection with deadly gallows outside as protesters vowed to hang Pence.

Pence's warning that overturning the results would transgress the rules stipulated by the Constitution whistled in the wind.

The former Vice President quoted a 19th century U.S. President John Quincy Adams as saying, "Duty is ours; results are God's."

{Soundbite} I know we did our duty that day. John Quincy Adams reminds us: Duty is ours; results are God's.

Despite not being on good terms with Trump for now, he is apparently seeking a comeback in 2024.

{Soundbite} Kamala Harris will have no right to overturn the election when we beat them in 2024.

This, as the Republican National Committee upbraided two Republican lawmakers on Friday for partaking in the notorious probe into the violent January 6 insurrection, citing the panel's persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.

The censure, which is in line with the former President's incendiary rhetoric, accuses Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger of "participating in a persecution" spearheaded by Democrats.

Mike Pence portrayed January 6, 2021 as a "dark day", which stands in stark contrast to what other Republicans consider "ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse."

Today's speech came on the heels of months he spent away from the limelight.

Critics say the 2024 ballot box is apt to pit Pence against Trump.

Trump has spoken out against the iniquities of the Jan. 6 probe, saying were he to take the helm again, he would pardon people charged with criminal offences in relation to the January 6 insurrection.
