Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, welcomed their second child on Friday.
The baby was named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Although both Prince Harry and Meghan have stepped away from their royal duties, the baby’s name pays tribute to both Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose family nickname is Lilibet, and his late mother, Princess Diana.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said the queen, Prince Charles, Prince William and other members of the British Royal Family had been informed of the baby’s birth and are “delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
Britain’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, also congratulated the couple in a tweet.
This is the couple’s second child. They welcomed their first child, a son, in 2019.
No photos of the newborn or the Sussexes accompanied the announcement.
