Abu Agila Mohammad Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi was arrested after authorities in the United States announced charges against him back in December 2020.

He is the third Libyan intelligence official to be charged in connection with the case.

The flight headed for New York exploded less than an hour after taking off from London on December 21st, 1988 killing 259 people on board and 11 on the ground.

The bombing highlighted the threat of international terrorism right before the September 11th attacks.

Critics called the bombing "despicable" and said the culprits should be brought to justice.
