Lee Wai-Sze wins the 6th medal for Hong Kong

{Good evening.}

Hong Kongers loved the hustle and bustle around the city today as our cycling legend Sarah Lee pulled off her brilliant win in the women's track cycling sprint race and captured the bronze medal.

Not only has her win made her the first local athlete ever to win medals in two separate Olympic Games, but it has also showed how important tenacity and perseverance really are.

Despite dispiriting setbacks in the semi-finals with Ukraine's Olena Starikova, Lee didn't lose her composure in her first race against her German opponent.

Sure enough, the 34-year-old crossed the finish line almost a second ahead of Hinze in the first contest.

The second race was a nail-biter, since she competed under great pressure - winning that contest means a bronze medal is secured.

At first, Hinze was in Lee's crosshairs while they were both ready to explode in a second.

Without a doubt, Lee exploded in the beginning of the final lap and accelerated to the finish line, with Hinze slowing down behind.

Not letting Hong Kongers down, she easily claimed the bronze medal, making this year's Olympic Games even more successful for Hong Kong.

Canada's Kelsey Mitchell was the gold medal winner in the sprint, while Ukrainian Olena Starikova, who beat Lee in the semi-finals, won silver.

Her coach said Lee went the extra mile and pulled out all the stops to ensure she will secure a medal, and appreciated her efforts.

The nail-biting final culminated in Lee winning a bronze medal, also the city's 6th medal in this year's Games.

Standing on the stage in the awards ceremony, Lee's tenacity, perseverance and strength, as well as her better-than-expected performance, surely made Hong Kongers proud.

Many Hong Kongers cheered the news as they spent the entire morning in several shopping malls in the city, showing their support for the cycling legend.

As was Chief Executive Carrie Lam, who was also on the edge of her seat at the Hong Kong Sports Institute the entire morning. Lam was quick to gave Lee kudos and send her heartfelt congratulations to the 34-year-old. She described Lee as a Hong Kong legend with her brilliant results.

The President of the Legislative Council issued a letter on behalf of Legco members to congratulate the cycling legend on her success. Andrew Leung said her unparalleled determination and vigour has not only brought glory to Hong Kong, but has also set a new milestone in Hong Kong's sports sector.

Meeting the press after her medal-winning race, Lee said her coach instructed her to focus on upcoming races after several setbacks in the semi-finals and the keirin. That's why she only considered the Olympic Games a game, meaning-wise.

Having strained every nerve to do her very best, Lee added although she didn't get a gold medal after all, she had no regrets at all.

All is well that ends well. The test of time always goes down to the wire. Dubbed the cycling legend and superstar now, leveraging her confidence, tenacity, competence and perseverance, Lee has Hong Kongers overjoyed at her achievements.

It is not her game plan which stands to reason why many people consider her their idol, but her tenacity and unparalleled determination are the things that truly make her one of a kind.
