The Israel-Gaza war showed no sign of abating today as Israel carried out yet another wave of airstrikes last night on what it said were militant targets in Gaza. A six-story building was reduced to rubble as a result of last night’s airstrikes. Meanwhile, the U.S., along with other countries in the world, are now working day and night to stop the region’s fiercest hostilities in years.
Last night’s airstrikes left cars on the road severely damaged. The Kahil building, which contained libraries and educational centres belonging to the Islamic university, was reduced to rubble after explosions from last night’s airstrikes from the Israeli military. Rockets sent flashes of orange across the night sky, and explosions from the airstrikes left residents in the Gaza city awakened.
More than a week into their fourth war, which is also the deadliest war on record, the war continued unabated today and has raged out of control as Palestinians and Israelis across the region have seen several airstrikes and retaliation from Gaza. And knowing Hamas is trying to retaliate by firing a barrage of rockets to Israel, Israel says its missile defence systems have a 90 percent interception rate, which implies it’s asking Gaza not to do something stupid. Now, Israel is also knocking the wind out of Hamas by launching attacks on rocket firing sites in the Gaza Strip, and is reportedly trying to launch missile attacks on every nook and cranny of Gaza, in an attempt to destroy a vast network of militant tunnels in Gaza.
According to the Israeli military, Hamas and other Palestinians groups had fired about 3,350 rockets from Gaza, and that Israeli air and artillery strikes had killed at least 130 militants across the region.
The bombardments between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip have killed at least 212 people, including 61 children and 36 women, who were victims of rocket shrapnel that also leveled several buildings in the Gaza Strip.
The worsening conflict between Israel and the Palestinians is reportedly causing considerable effects on Israel’s and some Arab governments’ efforts to seek a rapprochement. Several Arab countries earlier said not only will they formalise their ties with Israel, but they will also embark on unprecedented cooperation with Israel across a wide range of sectors, including security and intelligence.
Despite the U.S. being so supportive towards a ceasefire, China is crying foul at the U.S.’ act of blocking its efforts at the United Nations to demand an end to the bloodshed. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said China has urged a ceasefire and will do its best to provide humanitarian assistance, but that obstruction by “one country” has prevented the council from speaking with one voice.
Meantime, U.S. President Joe Biden expressed his support for a ceasefire during a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. But Netanyahu is adamant Israel will continue the strikes against militant sites and that Israel would carry on the war against Gaza.
