There seems to be no end in sight in the conflict between Israel and Gaza, as Israel continued to pummel Gaza with air strikes and Palestinians militants launched rocket barrages at Tel Aviv and other cities on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Israeli military is now accused of using media to trick Hamas, in an attempt to destroy Hamas’ tunnel network.
Imagine living in the Gaza Strip, which is now in ruins as a result of the bombardment from Israel. The spiraling violence has raised fears as Israel’s military on Saturday launched rocket attacks on the Gaza Strip, and literally moved in for the kill.
The political strife between Israel and Palestine has once again caused the deadliest outbreak of violence in the region on record.
Early Saturday, an airstrike hit a three-story house in Gaza City’s Shati refugee camp, leaving eight children and two women dead.
In an attempt to destroy Hamas’ tunnel network, Israel launched missile attacks on Hamas’ rocket launch sites and apartment belonging to Hamas militants.
There’s no chance for Palestinians to pick up the pieces and in the aftermath of recent Israel air strikes, artillery shells destroyed apartment buildings in the Gaza Strip, and destroyed vehicles.
But, Hamas has vowed it will stop at nothing to take revenge on Israel amid calls for de-escalation. Since last Monday, Hamas has fired a barrage of rockets into Israel, after Israel bombarded the Gaza Strip. Hamas’ furor to Israel’s bombardment is believed to have been caused by the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians as a result of the bombardment.
Now, the Israeli military is accused of using media ruse to dupe Hamas into believing the Israeli military was attacking the Gaza Strip on early Friday. Hours later, the military issued a “clarification”: There were no troops inside Gaza. But by then, the news of the Israeli military attacking the Gaza Strip had been spread like wildfire as several news agencies had erroneously reported the ground offensive was underway.
Trying its best to de-escalate tensions in that region, the United States has sent the President’s envoy Hady Amr, the deputy assistant secretary for Israel and Palestinians affairs to Israel, as he arrived in Israel on Friday, before a meeting on Sunday of the U.N. Security Council. The U.S. Embassy said the envoy’s visit is aimed at reinforcing the need to work towards a sustainable calm, albeit regional and international diplomatic efforts have yet to show any signs of halting hostilities. President Joe Biden earlier called for de-escalation in the region, but said Israel has its right to self-defence.
