In Iraq, the government once again pushes vaccine rollout despite widespread apathy, as a serious surge in coronavirus infections has promoted the Iraqi government to administer more COVID shots to immunise the public.
Iraq has grappled with a severe second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. New COVID case numbers spike to over 8,000 per day last month, another new record. Public apathy toward the virus is believed to have caused the surge. Many are reluctant to adhere to anti-virus measures, and many people were seen walking on the streets without wearing a mask.
Daily rates have decreased in the last week, with 5,068 new cases reported on Monday.
Iraq’s Health Ministry has repeatedly tried to convince more Iraqis to roll up their sleeves via reassuring them that the vaccines aren’t harmful to them, and Iraqis won’t have to suffer from serious adverse effects.
So far, the vaccination rate in the country remains sluggish, as fewer than 380,000 people have been fully vaccinated in the country with 40 million people.
