{O/C} The Justice Department has charged one Iranian operative with plotting to assassinate former Trump-era National Security Adviser, John Bolton.

45-year-old Shahram Poursafi is presently being pursued by the FBI for heading that plot.

Prosecutors say the scheme unravelled over a year ago in an apparent retaliation for a U.S. airstrike that killed Iran's most powerful general.

Bolton tweeted after the air strike, the airstrike would hopefully be the impetus for a regime change in Tehran.

Plus, he called Iran's nuclear weapons programme and terrorist activities "two sides of the same coin", asserting that America re-joining the 2015 nuclear deal would do more harm than good.

That deal had Iran trade tight curbs on its atomic programme for sanctions relief.

The FBI suspects Poursafi was acting on behalf of the Revolutionary Guard regarding the assassination plot.

But Tehran immediately lashed back, calling the accusations unfounded and politically motivated.
