Donning a fluttering, cream-coloured turban, Modi assured his countrymen on the 75th anniversary of India's independence from British rule that the world's opinion of India is gradually changing, and will be having his country help resolve global issues.
Modi added India would be guided by the ideals of self-reliance and the spirit of international partnership to transform it into a manufacturing hub.
He pointed to the bunting on India's streets as a display of patriotism in every heart.
India has assumed its position in the vanguard of information technology, pharmacy, space science and civil nuclear energy.
