In an attempt to prevent the deadly January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol from happening again, the House is poised to vote on a 9/11 style commission on the insurrection.
That is considered the first step toward creating an independent and bipartisan panel that would investigate the siege and try to avert another insurrection.
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday that he is “pushing the pause button” on the legislation to form the commission. So despite the measure being expected to be approved on Wednesday by the House, a commission will likely be a more difficult sell in the Senate because Republicans are signaling they will stop at nothing to block or at least slow down the effort.
