The United Nations General Assembly unanimously elected Antonio Guterres to a second term as secretary-general.

This means he will be given another five years at the helm of the 193-member organization at a time when the deeply divided world faces numerous conflicts, the growing impact of climate change, and a pandemic still haunting people across the globe.
Guterres, the only candidate for the U.N.’s top job, said he was “humbled and energised” by the support the world’s nation and said the “driving theme” of his second term will be “prevention in all its aspects – from conflicts, climate change, pandemics to poverty and inequality”, and that only when there is trust between countries can they cooperate to deal with different issues.
Antonio Guterres:
It is time to strengthen multilateralism. It is time to understand that each country alone can do nothing. If we remain divided, the impossible will remain impossible.
