Hazy skies in New York and other cities on the U.S. East Coast today as wildfires continue to burn in the American West.

Skies over New York City were hazy on Tuesday as strong winds blew smoke east from California, Oregon, Washington and other states.
Gusts further exacerbated the fire conditions as Oregon's Bootleg Fire grew to 606 square miles in size.
Authorities were prompted to evacuate several communities located in Alpine County as fires continue to grow on both sides of California's Sierra Nevada.
Extremely dry condition and heat waves as a result of climate change have made wildfires more prevalent and harder to fight. The conflagrations are expected to grow as the weather becomes extreme.
