Meantime, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris asserted today that the U.S. must focus on evacuating Americans and vulnerable Afghans from Afghanistan and shouldn't get distracted by controversy over the chaotic U.S. troop withdrawal.

During a news conference in Singapore alongside Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Harris repeatedly declined to engage when asked if the U.S. should have taken a different approach in the withdrawal.
The news conference followed a roughly 2-hour meeting between the two in which they discussed a battery of issues, ranging from COVID-19 response to cybersecurity and supply chain cooperation.
Questions related to Afghanistan obviously dominated the conference.
Lee Hsien Loong offered Singapore's support for the U.S. decision to withdraw, and added his country was grateful for the United States' efforts to combat terrorism in Afghanistan.
Harris' Southeast Asian trip, which began in Singapore today, is aimed at broadening cooperation with both Singapore and Vietnam so as to counter China's efforts to broaden its sphere of influence in the region.
