A former London police officer who raped and sexually assaulted a dozen women over 17 years was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 30 years.
48-year-old David Carrick pleaded guilty to 49 offences, including 24 counts of rapes and charges that included assault, attempted rape and false imprisonment.
His crimes took place in 2003 and 2020, but he was only suspended in 2021 after his arrest over a rape complaint.
During his sentencing hearing on Tuesday, the judge said Carrick "took monstrous advantage of women", believing no victims would come forward to report him.
Britain's Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, called his crimes "a scar on the police."
The Metropolitan Police has apologised to victims of the serial rapist.
Authorities are pressuring the police to reform its culture and standards after a battery of racism and misogyny allegations.
