A lawyer representing former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has asked a U.S. appeals court to overturn his murder convictions, citing legal and procedural errors.
{RVO}
At the Minnesota Court of Appeals, William Mohrman insisted Chauvin didn't get a fair state trial and deserves a new one.
This, given extensive pre-trial publicity and security precaution for fear of protests.
But a special attorney for Minnesota claimed Chauvin got one of the most transparent and thorough trials in American history.
Chauvin is serving a 21-year jail term after he pinned George Floyd, a black man, to the ground with his knee and killed him back in May of 2020.
That triggered a wave of protests across the country and the world over police brutality and racism.
A final ruling is expected within 90 days.
