It was at around 1:20 p.m. local time when the low-flying aircraft collided over the skies of Dallas, culminating in a fiery crash at the Dallas Executive Airport.
The aircraft involved were a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a Bell P-63 Kingcobra.
In the aftermath the mangled wreckage was engulfed by flames as black smoke came billowing up into the air.
No injuries were reported on the ground, but it was unclear how many people were on board the two planes.
Witnesses watched on in sheer disbelief.
As a result, the Federal Aviation Administration has initiated a probe into the incident.
