Amid calls for a nationwide lockdown in India, new coronavirus cases and deaths dropped from peak.
366,161 new infections and 3,754 deaths were reported today, a bit lower than the figures recorded last week.
While hospitals continue to scramble to get more medical and oxygen supplies, many states have imposed strict lockdowns over the last months, in an effort to contain the recent surge in the number of infections.
Meantime, pressure is still mounting on Modi to announce a nationwide lockdown as he did during the first wave of infections last year. Modi is reportedly reluctant to do so again this time out of fears that yet another economic recession would be triggered.
