A consensual relationship with another CNN executive and his longtime aide, Allison Gollust, has CNN President Jeff Zucker paying for it with his job.
He wrote a memo announcing the end of his nine-year stint as the company's president. In it, he said he was obliged to disclose it when it began, but he didn't. He conceded he was wrong.
Gollust, meanwhile, said she and Jeff have been bosom friends and professional partners for over two decades. She admitted their relationship changed during COVID, and regretted not having disclosed it at an appropriate time. She is staying at the network though.
CNN's parent company, WarnerMedia, said three senior executives at CNN would be the interim leaders until a replacement is found.
Ever since Zucker became the executive producer of NBC's "Today" show, he has taken America by storm. He even launched the reality show "The Apprentice", which starred Trump on the tube.
He worked his way up the ladder, becoming chief of NBC Universal. But he left NBC in 2010, when Comcast took over.
Both Gollust and Zucker are divorced.
Chris Cuomo, who used to be CNN's most popular prime-time news anchor, lost everything in December last year when it was discovered that he actually helped his brother, Andrew Cuomo, who resigned as New York Governor over sexual harassment allegations, respond to the charges more extensively that previously acknowledged.
Chris Cuomo is reportedly seeking a settlement from CNN.
The resignation sent shockwaves throughout the company, where Zucker was well-liked.
CNN had come under fire before for devoting most of its coverage to Trump's campaign rallies back in 2016.
This, as the untoward scandal has put a black eye on Zucker's reputation as the leading light of the TV news industry.
