Clashes recur near Jerusalem flashpoint holy site

{O/C} The flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jersalem is making headlines yet again.

Israeli police fuelled clashes there after entering the mosque, injuring at least 17 Palestinians.

The unrest follows clashes with Palestinians at the same exact place two days ago.

The hilltop compound housing the mosque is the third-holiest site in Islam while serving as the most sacred place for Jews, who refer to it as the Temple Mount.

The conflicting claims to the site have triggered rounds of recurring violence.

The war of words, meanwhile, persisted today. Israeli police accused Palestinians of desecrating the holy site, while Palestinians responded by saying two can play at that game.

Israeli police say they entered the mosque on grounds of facilitating the routine visit of Jews to that holy site, claiming Palestinians had stockpiled stones and set up barriers in anticipation of violence.
