Major breakthrough in the Israel-Gaza war. Egyptian negotiators’ efforts to broker a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza war have borne fruit. This has thousands of Palestinians rallying in Gaza, declaring victory in the Israel-Gaza war. The truce marks the first hopeful sign of ending the hostilities in the region.
The 11-day war left more than 200 dead, with Palestinians being the majority. Needless to say, the repercussions of the latest Gaza war have reared their ugly head, as there’s already widespread devastation to the impoverished Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.
The rocket barrages from Hamas are considered a bold response to Israel, who devastated Gaza by way of airstrikes every night during the 11-day war. The rocket barrages from Hamas have brought life to a standstill in much of Israel, and Palestinians says, this is the result of Israel’s efforts to destroy Palestine’s sacred homeland.
Thousands of Palestinians took to the streets of Gaza and the ceasefire took hold at 2 a.m. today. They admitted the war was costly, but it goes without saying, the Islamic militant group Hamas has won, blowing the much more powerful Israel out of the water. Waving Palestinian and Hamas flags, young men in the Gaza Strip also set off fireworks and honked horns to celebrate Hamas’ victory in the latest Gaza war. Spontaneous celebrations were also observed across the occupied West Bank.
Hamas also claimed victory, despite the horrifying toll the war took on countless Palestinian families whose loved ones were victims of Israeli airstrikes. Having gone through the harrowing ordeal, Palestinians now have to start picking up the pieces, and they are currently faced with the daunting challenge of rebuilding in a territory that’s already suffering from numerous economic problems brought about by the pandemic.
However, the mood was more sombre in Israel, as Israel was literally the loser. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has come under fire for letting Palestine, with whom Israel has been at loggerheads, despite being hell-bent on defeating Palestine in the war. After some Arab countries accused Netanyahu of not working day and night to broker a ceasefire, because the ongoing war would likely thwart efforts to seek a rapprochement between some Arab countries and Israel, Netanyahu is currently inundated with angry accusations from his right-wing base that he had halted the war too soon, as he agreed to reach an unconditional ceasefire after he had talked with U.S. President Joe Biden over the phone. “Folks, I’ve just spoken with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Earlier today, I spoke with President Al-Sisi of Egypt, Prime Minister Netanyahu informed me that Israel has agreed to mutual unconditional cease-fire, began in less than two hours.”
The ceasefire was brokered by neighbouring Egypt, who has been working day and night alongside some other countries to broker a ceasefire that would be a truce, after the U.S. pressed Israel to wind down the offensive.
Meantime, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken plans to visit the region in the coming days to discuss recovery efforts and work together to build better futures for Israelis and Palestinians.
