Prevailing Defence Minister Nobuo Kishi is out and former minister Yasukazu Hamada is in.

Just part of the latest Japanese cabinet reorganisation.

Five ministers, including Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, have retained their posts.

The reshuffle is the second in just 10 months since prime minister Fumio Kishida took office, and follows his election victory in July.

The move aims to cement his grip on power until 2025.

But former prime minister Shinzo Abe's atrocious assassination on July 8 and its impact on politics reverberated across Japan.

Public support for Kishida's cabinet has plummeted to 46 percent from 59 percent.

Kishida assured the masses the Liberal Democratic Party-Komeito coalition is seasoned and capable of surmounting the hurdles ahead, such as U.S.-China discord, the pandemic and the Ukraine crisis.

Given his countrymen are disillusioned over murky government ties to the Unification Church, Abe's ties to which played a part in his assassination, Kishida sacked members of his Cabinet who are affiliated to the group.

They include Internal Affairs Minister Minoru Terada.

Still, Kishida installed multiple minister who did acknowledge their previous donations to the church in a contentious decision.
