{O/C} Myanmar's military launched air strikes today on an anniversary celebration of the Kachin ethnic minority's main political organisation, killing at least 80.

The event, attended by singers and musicians and held by the Kachin Independence Organisation in the northern state of Kachin, appeared the deadliest air attack since the military seized power from deposed former leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
The attack could not be independently verified, despite videos online revealing what was described as the aftermath of the attack -- fragmented and obliterated wooden structures.
The military government's information office called the attack a "necessary operation" in response to "terrorist" acts carried by the Kachin group.
The strikes came three days before a special meeting of Southeast Asian foreign ministers in Indonesia to discuss the burgeoning violence in Myanmar.
