American comedian Bill Cosby was freed from prison on Wednesday after Pennsylvania’s highest court overturned his sexual assault conviction.

Cosby was arrested in 2015, when a district attorney armed with new evidence filed a lawsuit against him, accusing him of sexual assault.
The release came as the Pennsylvania Supreme Court said on Wednesday that District Attorney Kevin Steele, who made the decision to arrest Cosby, was obligated to stand by his predecessor’s promise not to charge Cosby, despite no evidence saying that agreement was ever put in writing.
The court called Cosby’s subsequent arrest “an affront to fundamental fairness”.
But many of Cosby’s accusers remain up in arms, saying he was truly a rapist, and a woman, Therese Serignese, now 64, said Cosby forced her to sleep with him at a Las Vegas hotel in 1976.
Cosby returned to his home in Philadelphia just hours after being released from prison. He made no comment as he arrived at home.
