Bill Cosby a free man as the legal drama winds down

{O/C} The U.S. Supreme Court announced today it would not reinstate the sexual assault conviction against America's Dad, Bill Cosby.

While Cosby is now a free man, his accuser is completely displeased.

Eighty-four-year-old Cosby, who is now legally blind and had been found guilty on charges he drugged and molested Andrea Constand, is now a free man.

His conviction came in the MeToo era, which drew immensely widespread attention because of his celebrity status, in addition to a dozen of other accusations against the former entertainer, who broke racial barriers with his signature sitcom, "The Cosby Show."

America's highest court ruled today that it will not reinstate the sexual assault case against Cosby, ceasing the legal drama that lasted two decades.

A spokesperson of Cosby's expressed his sincere gratitude to the judges, portraying the court's decision as a victory.

As for his accuser, Andrea Constand, who was an employee at Cosby's alma mater of Temple University, the decision stuck in her craw. In a statement, her disappointment and anger were writ large as she called the decision an unfavourable outcome, especially for victims of sexual assault.

His criminal case was reopened in 2015 after a judge unsealed parts of Cosby's deposition during the civil suit. That came after a dozen women came forward, accusing Cosby for doing the same.

But a divided Pennsylvania Supreme Court said using Cosby's deposition violated his due process rights.

A sexual assault survivor called the Supreme Court's decision an insult to injury.

{Soundbite} LAQUISHA ANTHONY, Sexual Assault Survivor: For survivors, this is probably yet another devastating blow.

Currently working for an organisation aimed at eliminating sexual violence, Anthony vowed to continue fighting for victims' rights, even though she knows she will not succeed like a hot knife through butter.
