Former U.S. President Bill Clinton left for home to continue recovering from a urological infection after spending six days at a Southern California hospital.

Donning jeans, a sports coat and a face mask, the former president left the University of California Irvine Medical Centre at around 8 a.m. local time, flanked by his wife, Democratic Presidential Nominee in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election, Hillary Clinton.

Clinton is indeed on the mend now, as he not only stopped to shake hands with doctors and nurses lined up on the sidewalk, he also gave a thumbs-up when asked how he was feeling.

Clinton's doctor's said fever and white blood cell count are both normalised, and he will return home to New York to finish his course of antibiotics.

Clinton was admitted to a hospital southeast of Los Angeles on Tuesday with an infection unrelated to COVID-19.

In the years since Clinton left the White House back in 2001, the former president has faced a number of health scares, including prolonged chest pains and shortness of breath that sent Clinton undergoing quadruple bypass surgery in 2004.
