Aung San Suu Kyi sentenced to five more years in jail for corruption

{O/C} In yet another hammer blow to former Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi, a court in the military-ruled country has sentenced her to five years in jail in the first of several corruption convictions against her.

Deposed last February during a military coup that slaughtered an estimated 1,800 civilians, Suu Kyi has denied the allegation that she had accepted a bribe in the form of gold and hundreds of thousands of dollars from a top political colleague.

Her staunch supporters and independent legal experts have both castigated the prosecution as an unjustifiable move to decredit the former leader and legitimise the military's seizure of power as Suu Kyi came to grief.

She may have to spent more than 100 years in prison in all over various charges.
