At least 12 sailors die of suspected food poisoning on vessel off Vietnam

At least 12 sailors on a Chinese-flagged cargo vessel have succumbed to suspected food poisoning off Vietnam's southern coast.

Upon receiving distress calls from the ship's captain, authorities in the island district of Con Dao plucked the victims and nine other sailors who later survived from the ship by helicopter to a hospital.

The "Wu Zhou 8" vessel was on its way from Thailand to China.

Now reportedly listed in critical condition, the 9 survivors recalled consuming canned duck for lunch followed by vegetables and fish for dinner prepared by the chef.
