Africa scrambling for COVID vaccines

Although coronavirus is taking a back seat in some nations in the globe, Africa is still scrambling to search for COVID vaccines as countries are stepping up efforts to help stamp out the virus.

In South Africa, only 0.8 percent of the population is fully vaccinated. Hundreds of thousands of the country’s healthcare workers are still waiting for COVID shots, as searching for COVID vaccines is like finding a needle in a haystack.

In Nigeria, Africa’s biggest country with more than 200 million people, only 0.1 percent of the country’s population is fully vaccinated, which stands to reason why the country’s vaccination rate remains sluggish.

The World Health Organisation says the continent of 1.3 billion people is facing a severe shortage of vaccine.

Africa is currently one of the hard-hit continents, as the continent’s fragile healthcare system is ill-equipped to deal with the grave disease.
