Adapt to a more eco-friendly lifestyle during the pandemic – Reduce your plastic wrap use

It’s that time of year again, when we put ourselves into quiet moments of self-reflection, as only when we are in quiet moments of self-reflection can we realise our mistakes and really try to learn from the mistakes.

Cheap and convenient, plastic wrap has been considered ubiquitous: We always utilise it for keeping foods fresh, to cover a bowl of dough, lay atop a dish to microwave it, and more.

However, results of several studies have successfully raised people’s awareness of plastic pollution. Studies found that with more people throwing plastic bags and bottles into the ocean, many bottles and bags ended up being the main culprits of water pollution, and ensnaring the necks of many marine creatures.

As such, we should immediately reduce the use of plastic wrap, so as to protect the ocean, and build a better place for our future pillars.

These day, plastic wrap certainly has product alternatives, namely Beeswrap and Abeego. Not only can they shield foods from the air, but they are also natural alternatives of plastic wrap, which means they are reusable.

Plastic wrap is not reusable, and that’s why it’s created so many problems. Therefore, it’s always smart to use reusable and sturdy containers to store foods, and cover the containers with reusable plastic covers.

When it comes to baking, endless recipes ask you to cover dough with plastic wrap while it rises. But chefs like Zachary Golper, who owns the Brooklyn-based Bien Cuit bakery, are now recommending people top the doughs with a plate or sheet pan.

Well, it is always better for you to decide carefully whether it’s really necessary to use plastic wrap.

Take it from me, although it will take some time for you to get used to your new, eco-friendly lifestyle, and can be a challenge, it’s worth adapting to a more eco-friendly lifestyle: Banishing plastic wrap will help protect the environment, thereby averting deadly climate crises.
