{O/C} Tropical storm Meari today rattled Japan's main Honshu island with heavy rains and high winds.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said Meari had made landfall in Shizuoka prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, in the afternoon, after barrelling through Tokyo.
The storm triggered alarm bells about mudslides and floods.
More than 72,000 people in the area's main city of Shizuoka have been evacuated.
Sporadic downpours began in the late morning.
Rainfall is expected to worsen in Tokyo and areas north of Tokyo in the evening.
