Workers, volunteers and members of the U.S. National Guard have been mobilised to help residents living in Kentucky pick up the pieces in the wake of the massive tornado outbreak last weekend.

The tornado outbreak has rendered thousands homeless, with no electricity and drinking water available.
Governor Andy Beshear said today the death toll could rise as authorities continue to work day and night to clear up the debris covering the ground.
Meantime, efforts also turned to repairing the power grid, sheltering those whose homes were flattened and divvying up supplies.
A fund set up by the state with a view to helping the needy has collected 6 million U.S. dollars in donations. A Christmas toy drive has also been launched for children affected by the storm.
Mayfield, home to some 10,000 residents, suffered the brunt of the storm. Debris from destroyed buildings and shredded trees have yet to be removed.
Recovery efforts are expected to continue as residents may be forced to spend a Christmas not enjoying, but cleaning up in the wake of the deadly tornadoes.
