Indian navy ships recovered 22 bodies of people who were some of the crew members of a barge that sank off the coast of Mumbai during deadly cyclone Tauktae’s passage.
The search is continuing as 55 people aboard the barge are still unaccounted for, according to the navy’s spokesman, Mehul Karnik.
Inclement weather in the past few days hampered rescue efforts, but since the weather has improved today, the search operation for the missing people has been intensified.
The two barges that sank were reportedly carrying personnel deployed for offshore drilling.
The Indian Meteorological Department said today that deadly cyclone Tauktae has weakened into a depression centred over the south of Rajasthan state and adjoining Gujarat region.
Meantime, in neighbouring Nepal, authorities asked mountaineers to descend from high altitudes because severe weather might affect the region in the wake of the cyclone.
